Stoke Fleming
The cottage is set in the centre of Stoke Fleming, just 5 minutes
drive from the award-winning Blackpool Sands beach and 2 miles from
the picturesque naval town of Dartmouth. Woodlands Leisure Park as
well as the nature reserve at Slapton Ley are each within a pleasant
10 minute drive.
The village has a range of amenities, including a Post Office/
Newsagent/ Village Store, a hotel, pub, church and library (limited
hours).
From Stoke Fleming you can set out on a number of stunning, coastal
walks, either in the direction of Dartmouth via Dartmouth Castle, or
towards Slapton and Start Bay, via the many idyllic villages on the
way.
Dartmouth
With its busy marinas and quaint buildings, Dartmouth has featured
in a number of films and TV series. Attracting visitors all year
round, the highlight of the Dartmouth calendar is the Port of
Dartmouth Royal Regatta during August, with sailing and rowing
competitions plus spectacular airborne displays, often including the
renowned Red Arrows. Guided tours can be taken of the Royal Naval
College, or hop on a pleasure boat for a taste of the boating life,
you might even spot a grey seal! Take the ferry over to Kingswear to
catch the Steam Train or wander through Dartmouth’s narrow street
with individual shops, fantastic restaurants and tea-rooms. Or
simply enjoy the stunning river views from the top of Dartmouth
Castle.
Start Bay and
Slapton
The coastal road from the property in Stoke Fleming towards
Kingsbridge (the ‘capital’ of the South Hams) takes you along one of
the most dramatic stretches of coastline in the country, Start Bay.
The award-winning beach at Blackpool Sands is a favourite with
visitors to the area. At Slapton there is the freshwater lake of
Slapton Ley, a paradise for birdwatchers, nature lovers and walkers
alike, separated from the sea by a shingle bank and the road. As
well as those at Slapton Sands and Torcross, Start Bay boasts many
other beaches, all individual and very unspoilt, on which to enjoy
lazy family days or wonderful coastal walks looking out towards the
Start Point Lighthouse. |
